Artist Statement

Like many artists, I’ve experimented with a variety of media to find the one that best expresses my creative impulses.   Creating contemporary textile art is my passion because it is not just the act of designing, but the satisfaction of physically constructing a work of art with layers of cloth and thread.

Often I am inspired by the beauty of our environment here in the California foothills.  Local colors, textures, and design are all influences.  I particularly like the process of collecting just the right fabrics.  I start with a rich palette of my own hand-dyed fabrics, silks, and exotic fabrics from Africa and Asia.  Recently, I have been experimenting with mono-printing over hand-dyed fabrics.  This process adds to the depth of the piece.  A variety of embellishments is done with variegated thread and yarns.

Overall, my work combines organic shapes from nature with contemporary designs.
